Around Oristano, there are places that don't always come up in the top Google searches. Not because they're difficult to reach or less interesting, but simply because they aren't the most photographed.
If you're staying at Nurapolis and fancy a change from the more well-known beaches, these places are a good starting point for a less obvious detour. Sea, small towns, archaeology and nature: all within easy reach, in the vicinity of Oristano, without needing to make extensive plans.
The Arch and the Cane
Anyone who knows the Sinis knows that Is Arutas is an almost mandatory stop. However, shortly before arriving, there is a detour worth taking.
The Arch and the Cane It's one of the less crowded beaches near Oristano, with the same clear quartz that makes the area famous, but generally with fewer people. The coastline is long, the sea changes colour depending on the light and wind, and there's rarely a lack of space.
It's a free beach, without services, so it's best to arrive prepared with water, an umbrella and everything you need for the day. To reach it, take the road towards Is Arutas and, at the campsite, turn left onto a dirt road. Continue there until the car park.
If you are looking for a Sinis beach quieterThis is a good alternative.

Narbolia
Narbolia It is one of the closest towns to Oristano and the closest to Nurapolis. With fewer than two thousand inhabitants, it has houses made of dark basalt, quiet streets, and a few murals depicting scenes of agro-pastoral tradition.
If you happen to be here during carnival, the air is likely to smell of sugar and fried food: the Zippole Festival It is one of the most cherished events in the country. The zippole, spiral-shaped fritters typical of this festival, are prepared and fried on the spot, amongst stalls, crafts, and music. It's a good time to see Narbolia in a more lively guise.
The country lives in balance between two landscapes. Behind it lies Montiferru; in front, the Is Arenas pine forest and the beach of the same name, where our campsite is also located. Is Arenas stretches for over five kilometres, with golden sand and wind-shaped dunes. The seabed is sandy and slopes gradually, but on days with the mistral wind, the sea can become challenging.
The historic centre is compact, with internal courtyards and wooden doorways that tell of a daily life still tied to the land. If you're wondering what to see near Oristano besides the beaches, Narbolia is a simple but not obvious stop.
In recent years, it is often read that the name Narbolia derives from Nurapolis, that is, the city of nuraghi, the same name chosen for our campsite. In reality, the origin is different and more complex. Ignazio tells the full story in our podcast Made into a podcast!
Seneghe
A few kilometres from Narbolia, you will find Seneghe, inserted into the circuit of Authentic Italian VillagesIt is a country surrounded by olive groves, with a strong agricultural identity and a well-kept historic centre.
The surrounding area boasts numerous archaeological sites, including nuraghi, giant tombs, and domus de janas, which attest to an ancient and widespread presence throughout the territory. In the village, it's worth stopping at the Church of Santa Maria de Sa Rosa and the Ball Square, one of the main meeting points.
Seneghe is best known for its extra virgin olive oil. During the event Open doors The olive oil mills open to the public: you can taste local products and get to know the work involved in oil production up close. It's one of those events that combine storytelling and tasting, making a visit to the Oristano area interesting even out of season.
Another event worthy of note is Carnival, which begins on January 20th and concludes on Shrove Tuesday with "Dancing feet", a traditional dance performed in typical costume. The carnival of Seneghe is considered one of the last danced carnivals of Sardinia.
Ancient city of Cornus
Between Torre del Pozzo and S'Archittu, a few kilometres from Oristano, there's a place that is often overlooked because it doesn't have that immediate wow factor. And yet Cornus It is one of the most interesting archaeological sites near Oristano, especially if you like to understand the history of a territory.
Cornus was first an important centre in the Punic era, then a significant site in the early centuries of Christianity in Sardinia. The settlement area developed around the hill of Corchinas, with the acropolis at the top, and the residential and artisan areas around it. Punic remains consist mainly of sections of walls and burials; later, with the rise of Christianity, Cornus became an episcopal centre, and structures related to the early Christian period are also present in the area.
It is not a museum siteYou won't find a visitor centre or a structured guided tour. You visit independently, with a slightly "wild" atmosphere that for some is a limitation, for others a virtue.

Montiferru
The Montiferru It's one of the most interesting excursions to do near Oristano if you want to alternate between sea and nature.
It is a massif of volcanic origin that stretches between Bonarcado, Cuglieri, Santu Lussurgiu, Scano di Montiferro and SenegheIn a small area you can find dense woods, plateaus, scenic roads and coastal stretches with important cliffs. The vegetation is typical of the cooler inland areas: holm oaks, cork oaks, holly and downy oaks. Among its local inhabitants you might encounter wild boars, wild cats and foxes.
To truly live it, there are several Trekking routes, also circular, which allow you to walk through woodland areas and more open spots, with frequently changing views. Nearby, worth visiting are St Leonard of Seven Springs, nestled in the woods and famous for its crystal-clear springs, the Sos Molinos waterfalls a fairytale place, and the Capo Nieddu waterfall, with water cascading from the cliff directly into the sea.
